Wolves are primed for a Championship title charge next season, according to flying full-back Scott Golbourne.

The defender, who played 27 times for Kenny Jackett's side in the 2014-15 campaign, believes automatic promotion has to be the aim after the disappointment of this year's play-off near miss.

The Molineux men fell agonisingly short of the top-six on goal difference following their return to the Championship, but Golbourne has already set his sights high for next season.

He said: "Getting promoted is the aim again – that always has to be the aim for this club if it's out of the Premier League.

"We want to make improvements and the manager will have a good idea of where he wants to strengthen to get us over the line next season.

"I'm excited already, especially with the way we finished the season. The lads have gained a lot of confidence.

"I think now we will be in a lot better position to really have a crack at the title next time."

The former Barnsley man also believes Wolves will benefit thanks to the experience picked up by talented youngsters Dominic Iorfa, Kortney Hause and Ethan Ebanks-Landell this season.

Golbourne said: "Several young lads have come in and got quite a few games.

"Dom has played 22 games and Kortney 18 and that's massive for young lads of 19 to get that amount of experience at this level.

"Ethan has played a little bit as well and I think it's all good for the squad and that will definitely strengthen us for next season."

Despite missing out on back-to-back promotions, Golbourne believes Wolves should be proud of what they have achieved over the past year.

He said: "We were disappointed to miss out but we gave a good account of ourselves and we've given ourselves a really good platform to build on for next season."
