The left-back, who was on loan at the Amex Stadium last season, has been a long-term target for the Seagulls..

He was part of Kenny Jackett's 'group three' and was not in the manager's plans along with Kevin Doyle, Roger Johnson, Jamie O'Hara, Kevin Foley, Georg Margreitter and Tongo Doumbia.

Ward helped Brighton to the Championship play-offs last season and is expected to join them permanently within the next 24 hours.

Jackett said today: "The clubs have agreed and now it's down to Brighton and the player.

"It is a good move for him, he did well last year, they got into the top six and he was part of it.

"They have wanted him all along and we have moved on with Scott Golbourne and we have Tommy Rowe who can play at left back too.

"All of us thank him for what he's done and wish him all the best. He got a club reasonably quickly last season which shows the standard of the player.

"He didn't let them down. He's got a good reputation in the Championship and has been professional here. He had been good enough to get a good move last year and he has got a good one now.

"It will certainly help the club, you have to look at the overall picture and it will help the club so ultimately it will help me."

Ward made 239 appearances for Wolves, scoring nine goals, after signing from Bohemians in 2007.
