Roger Johnson today re-opened the wounds of his toxic exit from Wolves by insisting he shouldn't be singled out for blame.

The £4m defender is currently trying to resurrect his career on loan with Sheffield Wednesday after taking a sizeable pay cut following a career nosedive of three successive drops.

Speaking publicly for the first time about Wolves' shocking fall from grace, Johnson, who was Wolves' highest earner in the Premier League on £42,000-a-week, claimed he found the pressure of being a £4m signing and immediately made captain hard to bear.

"A lot has been publicised – some of it unfair, some of it I won't say anything about – but it's happened," said the 30-year-old.

"Going there as a big-money signing and going in as captain was tough. But you can't pin two relegations on one guy."
