Kenny Jackett urges Wolves to step up their game
Relieved Kenny Jackett today insisted Wolves must step it up in their two local derbies as he hailed king keeper Carl Ikeme.
Man of the match Ikeme was the difference in Saturday's 3-2 win against Swindon after three superb saves, while the Robins also hit the post as they outplayed Wolves.
Yet Wolves emerged to make it five straight wins for the first time since November 2008, although it was easily their most tense victory yet.
Wolves host Walsall tomorrow night before the short trip to Graham Turner's Shrewsbury on Saturday lunchtime having dropped a place to third in League One behind Peterborough on goal difference.
Jackett challenged his players to improve, saying: "There's a better performance in us than we gave on Saturday. We shouldn't be fooled because we need to do better than we did.
"That's our task – to keep improving.
"It's an exciting week and a big challenge – these are two very big games.
"We have to be very good in every game. We can play a lot better and there are a lot of things we can do sharper, crisper and more professionally."
Jackett added: "Having a goalkeeper like Carl Ikeme isn't luck. It's good for the club and he was outstanding.
"Carl was our man of the match which shows you the nature of the game. He was excellent, as he's been all season so far.
Jackett also praised his substitutes again as the replacements helped turn the game Wolves' way after Bjorn Sigurdarson set up Kevin Foley for the winner.
"Kevin and Bjorn both made a real impact," said Jackett. "The fact substitutes make such a difference is a big positive. It's very important we continue to do that. The whole group must realise we need everybody."
