Wolves boss Terry Connor today admitted Eggert Jonsson has been left 'shellshocked' by the Premier League.

The £600,000 signing from Hearts has had something of a baptism of fire in his first two top-flight appearances.

Jonsson struggled in his league debut against Liverpool which ended in a 3-0 defeat, then he came on last week in the 5-0 Manchester United mauling.

The 23-year-old Iceland international, who was bought as "one for the future" in January, is in Connor's thoughts with fellow central midfielders Karl Henry, Jamie O'Hara and David Davis out injured.

"I think Eggert might be shellshocked after those two games, but it's all part of his development," said the boss.

"We bought him as a player for the future and he's had two games which have both been against top teams.

"It's been difficult for him but he'll be much better for those experiences. If he doesn't learn and appreciate what it's all about from those two games, he never will."

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson today delivered a message of hope to Connor.

Fergie had a few quiet words of encouragement for Connor over a glass of wine last Sunday.

"Sir Alex knows all the teams, but he knows what our team's about," said Connor. "He said 'You've got to keep going – keep strong, keep believing and keep doing it'."

"Any pearl of wisdom from him is worth so much after what he's achieved. I'm told he has a soft spot for Wolves after his son Darren was here but they still beat us 5-0!"

Connor insisted he is under no more pressure as a rookie manager to avoid the drop than Ferguson is to retain the title.

"Their pressure is to continue to win and be top, our pressure comes from trying to get above the dotted line," he added.
