Terry Connor: My Wolves team believe in me
Terry Connor today insisted his appointment has convinced Wolves' players that they can beat the drop.
Terry Connor today insisted his appointment has convinced Wolves' players that they can beat the drop.
Connor's first game in charge saw Wolves come back from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw at Newcastle on Saturday as they climbed out of the drop zone by a point.
And the new manager believes the players have found it easier to respond to him rather than have the upheaval of a new man.
"I think the continuity has been vital," said Connor. "With a new manager there might have been a settling-in period, and it might just have taken a while to adapt.
"Because I've been there with these lads and dealt with them over a number of years, I think it was easier for them to understand what was required on Saturday.
"We know how to stay in the Premier League. We've done it for the last two years. I think I'm the right man for the last 13 games because I've been here for 13 years and the lads have been comfortable working with me – we didn't need any time to bed in."
Connor said Mick McCarthy's departure had rocked the club but revealed the previous boss was right behind him.
"It didn't just affect the staff but most of the players as well," he said.
"Saturday's message was good luck to me, all the staff, all the players and to the club for the rest of the season."
Meanwhile, chairman Steve Morgan has admitted offering the manager's job to one candidate, believed to be Alan Curbishley.
Morgan said "between five and 10" people were interviewed after 30 managers had contacted them.
