EFL Trophy keeper call was tough on Harry Burgoyne says Shrewsbury boss Matt Taylor
Matt Taylor understands Harry Burgoyne’s frustrations but insists it was the right call to pick Marko Marosi in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.
The Salop boss gave Town’s number one the nod in the goalless draw against Brighton Under-21s – and he was rewarded with some exceptional saves to help them get a draw.
He also produced an excellent stop in the shootout which helped Shrews to a 4-1 penalty win, but the boss says it was a very hard decision to pick him over Burgoyne, who usually gets his chance in this competition.
He said: “It was a difficult call to play him instead of Harry and I understand Harry’s frustrations, I totally take that on board and accept it.
“But Marko, he was exceptional. I thought he was good in terms of his use of the ball on Saturday compared to the game against Brighton Under-21s, he was better on Tuesday.
