Analysis: Carlisle is a miss in Shrewsbury's hit and miss season so far

So far this season Shrewsbury Town have been hit and miss.

It feels as though there is a lot of doom and gloom around the team despite sitting on nine points after six games – something that most would likely have taken at the start of the season.

Whenever they have gone out and got three points they have been unable to back that up – following each win with a defeat.

There have been occasions where Shrewsbury have played really well. The first half at Leeds where you could really see the blueprint of the team and what they are trying to do.

They deserved to win against Burton and put in a decent first-half display against Lincoln, but sadly they tired after the break and that ended in defeat.

That said, the performances on the road in the league are cause for concern.

They were well below par at Stevenage, they got lucky at Fleetwood, coming away with a 1-0 win despite being second best against the 10-man Cod Army and that moves us on to this weekend against Carlisle where Town offered very little in the final third, losing 2-0.

This team has undergone a significant overhaul over the course of the summer – so it will not click into gear straight away – it is unrealistic to expect that.

Taylor has only been in situ since the end of June, and now he has his squad together, and there is not likely to be any more disruptions to it – they can get to work.
