Shrewsbury Town eye home improvements

Aaron Wilbraham hopes the return of supporters next season goes hand-in-hand with Shrewsbury turning Montgomery Waters Meadow into a fortress.

Town’s home record this season is a disappointing one. They have won just five of 21 league games and are on track for one of the poorest home returns in their history.

The nine-game wait for a home league win this season, the longest in Town’s 70-year Football League tenure, finally ended under Steve Cotterill in late December.

Shrews, having secured their League One safety for another season, were seen off 1-0 at the Meadow on Tuesday night, but have home fixtures in two of their final three games, against Oxford and Ipswich, on Saturday and next Tuesday respectively.

Wilbraham said: “When the fans are back in we need to make this place a bit of a fortress, and I’m sure the fans will do that and be excited to do that.

“The players will thrive off that energy. Everyone is looking forward to the spectators being back in, we can’t wait ourselves.”

The Meadow has been a test pilot for fans’ return on five occasions this season – including four league games, where up to 2,000 supporters were permitted access, but the maximum capacity allowed under government guidelines was not reached.
