Shrewsbury's Matija Sarkic back with Wolves for quad injury rehab

Goalkeeper Matija Sarkic has returned to parent club Wolves for further treatment on a recurring quad injury.

The on-loan Shrewsbury shot-stopper has missed the last two games for Town after feeling a repeat of the injury that sidelined him in early March.

The Premier League club requested that Sarkic continued his recovery at their Compton base.

Montenegro international Sarkic, 23, has enjoyed a fine campaign on loan at Montgomery Waters Meadow. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions, a haul which has been hampered by a couple of injuries, including a two-month hamstring lay-off between September and November.

He has managed 11 clean sheets in all competitions.

But, with just four league games of the season left beginning tomorrow at home to Lincoln, it remains to be seen whether Sarkic will turn out for Town again. His replacement Harry Burgoyne kept an impressive and important clean sheet at Blackpool on Saturday to guarantee Shrewsbury's League One safety.

Assistant boss Aaron Wilbraham said: "Mati's continuing his rehab back at Wolves, they asked him to do his rehab there.

"They want to make sure, because it's a recurring injury, he has his rehab back there. We'll have to wait and see whether they release him really, that's their prerogative with him being their player.

"We have to wait and see when Mati can come back to ourselves."

Wilbraham said of Burgoyne's display, in which he made some key saves on the way to a clean sheet: "I thought Harry did well, it was probably his most settled game where he made the right decisions.

"It was great for him to get a clean sheet as well. He's a great talker, good character, and his kicking is really good. He brought something to the game with his kicking because he hits the right areas every time."

Striker Daniel Udoh, meanwhile, who missed the trip to Blackpool with concussion haven been struck in the face by a ball in training last Friday, will be assessed for concussion protocols before a decision on his availability is reached.

Aaron Pierre and Josh Daniels are stepping up their rehab from calf injuries at Town's Sundorne Castle base but aren't ready to return. Sean Goss and Rekeil Pyke are also unavailable.
