Curtis Main’s arrival has been backed to lift the performances of other Shrewsbury players as Town aim to get firing in front of goal.

The former Aberdeen frontman checked in on a free transfer on deadline day and looked sharp in his first training session yesterday.

Main, 28, is pushing for a debut at Swindon tomorrow. Aaron Wilbraham said: “When I was a player, whenever a new player came in you wanted to let them know you were a good player, so you up your standards a little bit because you want them to see you are one of the best players in the squad.

“It raises everyone and it’s competition for places. Having someone like Curtis, who comes in with his attitude, straight away you can see he’s the right type and keen to learn.”

Main and fellow new recruit David Davis only signed Town deals until the summer. Wilbraham added: “With those type of characters, Curtis Main and David Davies, they are not the type of players to rest on their laurels.

“You can see they’ve got that real hunger and desire to do well.”
