Hold up on Will Grigg move continues for Shrewsbury Town

The hold up with Will Grigg’s agreed loan deal to Shrewsbury remains with Sunderland as Town’s wait for a centre-forward goes on.

Town are understood to have agreed loan terms for the 29-year-old striker, including a percentage of his Stadium of Light wage, but Sunderland are yet to give the green light on the switch.

That is while Lee Johnson’s side work on a move to bring a forward in to replace Grigg.

They had been trying to do a deal for Ross County striker Ross Stewart, though that move now seems unlikely.

Shrewsbury have done all they can to bring the Northern Ireland international to Montgomery Waters Meadow but now face a waiting game while Grigg’s parent club decide what action to take.

Grigg will not be allowed to join Town if a striker does not arrive at the Stadium of Light.

The wait is likely to alert rivals to the deal, as appears the case with long-term Grigg admirers Oxford, who could look to rival or better Town’s

loan offer before Monday night’s deadline.

It is believed Shrewsbury head of recruitment Keith Burt and boss Steve Cotterill have other irons in the fire in forward positions.

But, despite Jason Cummings’ exit to Dundee yesterday, a move will only be made if the targets improve what Town already have in forward positions.

It is understood Shrewsbury may let another forward leave for game time should they get a deal for Grigg or another striker over the line.
