Shrewsbury Town's move for Brendan Galloway broke down in the final moments after the Luton left-back failed a medical.

Town appeared to be on the verge of a permanent deal for the former Everton starlet, 24, last week as a replacement for the departed Charlie Daniels.

An 18-month switch looked to be all-but rubber-stamped last week as Town inadvertently announced the Hatters man signing, but late medical checks were still to be conducted on the defender, who has struggled with injuries.

And the Shropshire Star understands the deal was called off because Shrewsbury's physio team decided the transfer was not in the best interest of the club.

Town reluctantly pulled the deal after being impressed with how the defender conducted himself.

Galloway, a former England youth international who featured for the Toffees in the Premier League, was hospitalised with a serious knee injury shortly into his Luton career in December 2019.

He did not return to competitive action until this January, in an FA Cup victory over Reading, and Luton chief Nathan Jones admitted the club were open at listening to offers.

Shrewsbury moved quickly in a permanent deal for Manchester City teenager Nathanael Ogbeta this week, a versatile left-sided defender.

But Town have also agreed a loan deal for highly-rated Stoke City left wing-back Josh Tymon, who has made 17 appearances for the Championship side this season, including at times in defensive midfield.
