Ollie Norburn hopes Achilles injection will allow him to feature for Shrewsbury at Coventry

Ollie Norburn hopes an injection in his troublesome Achilles injury will see him fit enough to finish the season in the Shrewsbury team.

The stand-in Town skipper has been a regular all season but struggled to shake the niggling injury over the last month, twice being forced off as an early substitute.

He came off early in the second half of last week's defeat against Oxford with Sam Ricketts' Shrews 2-1 up at the time.

Norburn admits the injury has plagued his preparation and recovery from matches but underwent the procedure to give him the best chance of featuring at Coventry on Sunday.

"It's been going on for a while to be honest, over a month or so," said the midfielder, who has missed training this week.

"It's been a little niggle that's been hard to manage, whether pulling out of training and making sure I'm right for the weekend or after the game.

"I've had an injection this week and as we are talking it feels a lot better, I think the injection's helped.

"Hopefully I'm right and ready to play.

"It's not nice going on to the pitch knowing you've got a niggle. It's on your mind but I'd do anything to be playing.

"If I can play I'll do anything to get on the pitch, that's just the way I am."

Ricketts' side can have their League One status secured before kicking a ball this weekend should AFC Wimbledon fail to beat Wycombe, owing to Town's superior goal difference against the Dons and fellow rivals Plymouth and Scunthorpe.
