Josh Laurent: New Shrewsbury signing have brought energy on and off pitch

Josh Laurent believes the January additions of youngsters Ro-Shaun Williams and Tyrese Campbell have lifted Shrewsbury off the pitch as well as on it.

The duo, who joined on a permanent two-and-a-half-year deal and on loan for the remainder of the season respectively, have been central to Shrewsbury’s recent League One revival.

Laurent, a regular in Town’s midfield this season, feels the pair have been key acquisitions for Shrewsbury for more reasons than their impact on the first XI.

“It’s been really nice and refreshing, even off the pitch they’ve added something new to the dressing room,” said 23-year-old Laurent. “They’ve added a bit of character even though they’re young lads.

“With Ro-Shaun you wouldn’t think these are his first league games, you’d think he’s played before and he’s a young lad who’s played a season or two.

“He’s come in like he’s quite experienced, he’s telling people what to do, he’s quite commanding. I think his performances show that, he’s a good centre-half.

“Tyrese as well, you’ve seen his finishing capabilities, he’s incredible.

“Off the pitch he adds something as well, he’s just bright, fresh and always working hard.”

Ricketts’ side are unbeaten in five league games since February 2, taking nine points from a possible 15.

Former Wigan man Laurent reckons Williams, 20, and Campbell, 19, have upped the standards in training.

“When one or two start picking it up, it lifts everyone else and everyone starts picking it up,” added Laurent. “The competition for places is big and it’s hard. It’s been a nice little lift and I think we’re starting to see the added extra they’re giving us on the pitch.

“I’m getting quite close to them already, they’re really nice guys, nice people, everyone is
