The 33-year-old has penned an 18-month Montgomery Waters Meadow deal after his Crawley contract, signed last summer, was cancelled.

The Frenchman played alongside Town boss Sam Ricketts at Coventry and also experienced League One football at Leyton Orient and Bradford.

He can play in either the heart or defence or in midfield.

Boss Ricketts hailed the attitude and character of his latest signing, who made 15 appearances for Crawley this term.

“I’ve brought him in because he’s a character more than anything, and with that he can play anywhere," said Ricketts. "He can fill in one position one week and another position another week. He’s not coming in with one position in mind he’s just good all round.

“He’s a player who’s had a great career, he’s professional and will lead by example. How he conducts himself, how he looks after himself, all of the extras such as the gym work. I want to create the right culture and environment.

“Experience is a big thing. If he can just come in and pass some knowledge onto the younger players that’s vitally important."

Ricketts stresses that, at 33, Vincelot has not lost the drive to achieve at Shrewsbury.

“Romain is a player who has got ability but he’s a player who plays with his heart and he’s a warrior who wants to win everything that he’s involved in and that mentality is really important," the boss continued.

“He’s coming with an attitude that he wants to come here and be successful and be part of something. That’s the desire and attitude I want to make us successful.

"He knows this level well, he knows what it takes. He does all of the side of the game that goes unnoticed well. Winning headers, tackles and breaking the game up. He’s a real competitor and gives his all every time he enters the field of play."
