Sam Ricketts wants Shrewsbury Town to have a 'glass half full' mentality after goalless draw with Blackpool

Boss Sam Ricketts wants to see a stop to looking down or looking worried at Shrewsbury Town instead pushing for a glass half full mentality.

Town drew 0-0 with Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, where they were the better side but able to convert dominance into goals.

Ricketts was pleased with his team's performance as he selected a 3-5-2 that worked so well in the heroic second half comeback at Stoke in the FA Cup.

But he admitted his side were lacking where they showed a prolific streak at Stoke with three late goals.

Shrews climbed a place to 17th in League One but the gap to the bottom four was cut to one point.

But the boss says the outlook of the table depends on how it is viewed. He said: "It depends if your glass is half full or half empty. We've gone up a place today, haven't we?

"Let's not be negative about this, there's a bit too much looking down and looking worried.

"Yes, we know where we're at in the league but it's that tight that back-to-back wins you can move up so quickly.

"All I can say is I look at the performance levels and the performance against a team sitting eighth in the league.

"I don't think anyone would've said, having watched the game, one team was eighth and one 17th."

Blackpool are eighth in League One and enjoyed a fine 1-0 win at leaders Portsmouth last time out.

Ricketts was pleased with how his side 'nullified' a decent Blackpool outfit.

"First of all, the game wasn't a classic, but the performance was good, it just wasn't very good because we didn't get the goal," added Ricketts.

"We were more organised, harder to play against and, especially coming away from goal, and we controlled the ball. Blackpool couldn't really get out of their own half.

"It was just the last action today, the pass to create the goal or the shot, the last little piece missing from a very, very controlled performance.

"We got in really good situations, exactly the same as at Stoke, but it was the final little bit - not that let us down - but it's the hardest thing in football.

"Performance was really resolute, really good away from home performance, nullified a team that sit eighth and in control, missing the last action."
