'No contact' between Shrewsbury Town and Reading over Dave Edwards, says Sam Ricketts

Sam Ricketts insists there has been 'no contact' between Shrewsbury Town and Reading over Dave Edwards.

Local lad Edwards, from Pontesbury, looks like being part of a Reading exodus after new boss Jose Gomes' recent appointment.

It has been reported that Gomes has given a list of Reading players who are not in his plans and Edwards, 32, who has not played this season through injury, is thought to be among them.

It is understood that if Edwards and Reading can reach an agreement on his contract – which is up in the summer – then the former Welsh international would return to Shrewsbury.

But boss Ricketts stresses there has been no talks between the clubs, although he is in regular contact with the midfielder, his former Wolves and Wales team-mate.

"Dave is in a situation at Reading where he's unfortunately missed the first half of the season through injury," Ricketts said at his pre-Stoke City press conference.

"There's new management in there – I don't know if they've brought a new director of football in too? Dave's a local lad so the link is always going to be there.

"There is nothing. Reading haven't contacted us, we haven't contacted them or anything. That will just remain as a rumour.

"I do speak to Dave and I always have done. You could say I have spoke to him but then I always do speak to him anyway."
