Sam Ricketts: Aaron Amadi-Holloway has all the attributes

Boss Sam Ricketts insists match-winning striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway does not know how good he is after his performance against Coventry.

The Welshman powered in a second half header to hand Shrewsbury their first league win under compatriot Ricketts.

Amadi-Holloway, 25, has locked down a position in Town's strikeforce alongside top scorer Fejiri Okenabirhie and proved the difference in today's gritty and resilient win against the Sky Blues.

Ricketts feels summer signing Amadi-Holloway has the potential to be a 'very good player'.

He said: "Aaron is a player who has tremendous attributes. Maybe he doesn't realise how good he is, how much potential he has and how far he can get.

"That's down to us to try and get that out of him. He's a player who I've not a centre-half able to handle yet with his physicality.

"If we can add goals to his game then there's no reason why he can't be a very, very good player."

Ricketts, who secured a first league win at the third attempt, believes Town showed a 'desperation' to win after taking the lead on 49 minutes.

But he hailed his side's mentality for securing three points to lift them to 15th.

"I loved it. I loved the first half, I thought we were excellent first half,, the only bit missing was the final action," he added.

"Whether it was the pass, the shot, just putting the ball into the back of the net.

"In the second half we got the goal and there was a little bit of a change in mentality, you could see a team desperate to win a game there, it became a little bit stretched.

"But what I've said many times is the will, determination and desire to win the game, you saw absolute effort from all the players which eventually got us over the line."

But the former Wrexham boss stressed there is much to improve. He continued: "We can be better, to be honest with you, I wasn't entirely happy with the last 20, 30 minutes or so.

"To win the game and say we've still got things to work on now is the best place to be."
