It is believed Town will be in talks with Wrexham boss Sam Ricketts – after the Dragons chief was told to stay away from last night's FA Cup tie against Newport – early this coming week.

Coyne, who has been in temporary charge with academy boss Eric Ramsay as Town have secured five wins from six since the sacking of John Askey, said he was unaware of any developments.

"Everything is as it was, I've not been told anything different," he said after guiding Shrewsbury to the third round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 win over Scunthorpe.

"Nothing's been signed, nothing's been sealed. I'll go and see the chairman and have a chat with him to see if there's any developments.

"But as far as I'm aware at the minute nothing has been signed or done."

When asked if it was impossible to say whether he would be in charge for Wednesday's Checkatrade Trophy tie with Walsall, Coyne said: "Yes, I'd say so."

Ricketts' Wrexham assistant Graham Barrow instead took charge of the all-Wales FA Cup tie with Newport on Saturday night.

Graham, who has recently had caretaker stints at Wigan, said the situation required former Wales international Ricketts and Wrexham's board to 'get their heads together' and find a conclusion.

The experienced former boss and Dragons assistant felt Ricketts seemed 'indecisive' about the situation.

Barrow said: “What has happened is he was asked not to attend the game.

“Once that happened and once I was asked to do it (take charge) we then had to get on with the game. I think that is now for the board and Sam to get their heads together and see what comes out of it.

“I rang him to tell him I was doing the game.

“He didn’t actually (give any insight), probably more indecisive if I am being honest, but that is going to be between him, here (Wrexham) and Shrewsbury.”
