Town have lost just once on home turf this season – the opening day – and are unbeaten in five games since, taking nine points, compared to just three on the road.

Askey hopes that record will serve his side well in upcoming crunch games against Sunderland and Barnsley and praised fans for their influence.

He said: “I think it’s important, as I’ve said from the off, you need to make your home ground a fortress. We haven’t always got the wins we wanted, but teams are finding it difficult to come to us.

“One of the reasons is the supporters. They’ve really got behind us when they could’ve got frustrated. That’s a big thing, that the home support stick with us, and they have done.”

Askey has been handed a timely fitness boost for tomorrow’s clash.

Key midfielder Anthony Grant, who missed last weekend’s defeat at Fleetwood through illness, has recovered and is expected to go straight back into the team. Fellow midfielder Ollie Norburn was also struggling with illness earlier in the week and missed a couple of training sessions.

But the summer signing returned to training at Sundorne Castle and is fit and available for the weekend.

Winger Abo Eisa (knee) returned to training yesterday after six weeks out. But he remains unlikely to make the bench tomorrow.
