Angry boss John Askey called out his side's lack of desire as a 'moment of madness' cost Shrewsbury dear in a 2-2 draw with Gillingham.

Ollie Norburn looked to have snatched a win with his first goal for the club in the 88th minute but ex-Town striker Tom Eaves lashed in a 90th-minute equaliser.

Lee Angol's goal on the hour had brought the hosts level after a dour first half had them trailing to Brandon Hanlan's opener.

"I'm disappointed and angry, all the emotions you'd expect," said Askey.

"We'd done so well to get ourselves back into the game and to score late on. It's a game we should've won.

"I spoke about it before the game and at half-time, about playing with desire and aggression. Sadly their goal came from us not showing enough aggression and nous.

"It should've been knocked 30 or 40 yards forward and then for us to not win three tackles when you're a goal up is not good enough.

"It's not through ability or tactics. It comes down to a bit of desire and will to win. Sadly in the last minute we were lacking."

Eaves, who netted eight goals across two Salop loan spells, ghosted into the box on 90 minutes just moments after Norburn looked to have stolen the three points as Town fought from behind.

Gillingham led after a forgettable first half, where Hanlan's goal - again after poor defending - had the hosts ahead.

"I thought we were doing just enough and I said that. I said 'you look as though you're doing just enough but it's not enough'," Askey added.

"You've got to show more passion, desire and aggression. And we did that (in the second-half), I should've been going in there saying how well we did, which we did in the second half, but for a moment of madness."
