Luke Waterfall expects floodgates to open for Shrewsbury Town

Luke Waterfall is confident Shrewsbury Town are ‘not far away’ from a winning run that would see them rise up the table.

Town are 20th in League One after nine games, having picked up just one win.

They have lacked a ruthless streak at both ends of the pitch, but Waterfall has a positive mindset ahead of the clash with Gillingham at Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday.

“We’re not far away. We know in there that we’re not far away,” he said.

“We’ll definitely start to put it right. We just need to start getting on the right side of it. We’re all man enough in there – we talk it out and get the frustration out – and we’ll all get it right.

“It is still early days. You win two or three games on the bounce and suddenly you’re looking upwards, towards the play-offs and stuff rather than downwards.

“That’s what we plan on doing. We’ve got Gillingham at home and we’re definitely going for the three points.”

Salop’s last outing was a 1-0 loss at Scunthorpe last weekend.

It came on the heels of their only victory of the campaign – a 2-0 triumph over Southend, at home.

Centre-half Waterfall was signed in the summer from Lincoln, on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, and has started every single game since joining John Askey’s Town.

And he pointed out that Salop, who have also drawn four and lost four in the league, have not been blown away by anybody.

“You always look at the positives – there’s always positives to take from games,” said Waterfall. “We were just not reacting.

“That’s the main thing, our reactions have got to be better.

“We’ll improve on that. We’ll learn and hopefully put it right.

“We’ve been in every single game so far.

“We haven’t come away from any game thinking we’ve been battered.

“Even when we’ve lost, it’s been by the odd goal.”

He added: “We don’t get too frustrated or too down. It’s one defeat.

“We know we’ve got the players to turn it around – to start putting the chances away.”

The winners will have a ticket voucher delivered and can exchange it for two tickets for Saturday’s home game against Gillingham.
