No easy pickings at Shrewsbury, warns chief executive Brian Caldwell
Chief executive Brian Caldwell stresses that would-be suitors will not be able to cherry-pick from Shrewsbury’s squad this summer.
Scotsman Caldwell, who is busy with chairman Roland Wycherley in the process to appoint Town’s next manager, believes the club’s prize assets will want to stay at Montgomery Waters Meadow and further develop.
Some of Paul Hurst’s star turns, Jon Nolan, Toto Nsiala and Omar Beckles, still have time to run on their Town deals.
“At the end of the day we’ve got assets on the pitch now – a number of them,” said Caldwell.
“We’re obviously not looking to sell or lose the squad that we’ve got.
“Obviously there’s been a lot of speculation about players going in various places but I think we’re in a good position. If you take Jon Nolan, he still has two years on his contract, Toto has another year. There’s plenty there who have done really well this season.”
Hurst made it clear he intended to bring ‘assets’ into the club during his time in charge. He warned any managers wanting to sign the likes of Nolan would need to shell out big money.
“Yes I’m sure they can play at a higher level but there’s no reason why they wouldn’t want to stay at Shrewsbury,” Caldwell added.
“They’re obviously happy and enjoying their football.
“Obviously the manager’s moved on but who’s to say somebody else can’t come and carry on working with this group and taking them to the next level.”
