Derek Adams' Plymouth will look to expose 'weaknesses' against surprise team Shrewsbury Town

Plymouth boss Derek Adams is wary of Shrewsbury's goalscoring threat – but has challenged his in-form side to cause Town problems.

The Pilgrims chief has mastermind a fine run of form from his side who, earlier in the season, were battling the drop after a disastrous start back to life in League One.

But a run of just one defeat in 11 league games dating back to December 2 means Adams' men have climbed to 11th, just seven points from a play-off spot.

The Argyle manager brings his side to Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday and has been impressed with the division's 'surprise team', noting their ability to net from all over the pitch. But Adams also has an eye on extending his side's fine form.

“It’s one that we are looking forward to," said Adams. "We have done well against the likes of Wigan and Blackburn.

“We want to go up there and try to take the three points on Saturday.

“They (Shrewsbury) have had a very good season and are the surprise team in the league.

“They have been able to keep themselves at the top of the table on a consistent basis.”

Adams added: “They have worked extremely hard as a team. They have been able to win most of the games by the odd goal.

“They have been sound defensively and had goalscorers in their team as well.

“They have had that consistent element to their team throughout the season.”

Argyle, who like Shrews have taken 13 points from their last six games, hope to be able to take advantage of Town's 'weaknesses'.

He added: "They work as a team and sometimes that is very beneficial. It has been for them.

“They have got a strong unit and have got a number of players that can score goals for them.

“But, like any team, they have got their weaknesses as well. They have got players out of position along their back four.”
