Mat Sadler sure that Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst will add wisely
Captain Mat Sadler believes Paul Hurst's transfer record with Shrewsbury Town speaks for itself as the boss prepares to delve into the January market.
Boss Hurst has enjoyed two almost faultless transfer windows since taking charge of Town in late 2016. His dealings last January were crucial to League One survival while a host of summer recruits have played a part in Town's rise to the top.
And club captain Sadler, 32, has been impressed by Hurst's additions and insists that the manager's ability to bring in the right characters will play a key part.
Hurst is hunting for a left-back, winger and forward to add to his ranks. He signed 15 players in a busy summer, two have since seen their loans terminated.
"The manager's track record is fantastic so it's exciting to see what he comes with next," said Sadler.
"You believe they're going to be good people, that's the main thing.
"The gaffer will bring in good people to add to that dressing room.
"That's what I look forward to and in terms of ability I'll leave that to all of them."
Hurst's first transfer move after taking the reins was to sign defender Toto Nsiala. Other permanent deals, mostly player desperate to prove a point at the level of football, including Alex Rodman, Bryn Morris, James Bolton and Jon Nolan have proved astute.
While the loan market has also been fruitful. Tyler Roberts – who interests Town again this window – and Freddie Ladapo played a key role in securing safety last time out.
Hurst has this time around secured short-term deals for fans' favourites Dean Henderson, Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris. He has so far brought in 21 players in 14 months at Montgomery Waters Meadow.
The boss has revealed he will receive backing by the Shrewsbury board to conclude business in a bid to keep the club among the League One frontrunners.
"The gaffer's done great with signings that have come in," Sadler added. "People that we have included under that banner of 'points to prove'.
"While you've got that, you maintain a fire in your belly and motivation and it goes a long way.
"The manager will have done a hell of a lot of due diligence on whoever does come through the door, a lot more so than if he's a half-decent person or not!"
Town goalkeeper Shaun Rowley has returned from his loan at Tamworth.
