Paul Hurst upbeat despite Shrewsbury loss
Paul Hurst revealed the manner of Shrewsbury's third league defeat in four has left him with more hope.
An unfortunate goal, deflected in off Toto Nsiala 10 minutes after half-time, downed the hosts despite Hurst's side dominating the first period.
For all of their approach play, Town were unable to test stand-in City goalkeeper Rouven Sattelmaier.
The defeat, a second in five games after Tuesday's reversal at Bury, saw Town drop down to second with Wigan taking top spot.
But Hurst was not deterred by the defeat, instead remarking at the improvement from Bury and his side's largely impressive display.
The boss said: "We've gone more than toe-to-toe with a very good team.
"With not many changes from last season, they are a very good side, For large parts we had the better of the game, in truth.
"But when you're having the better of the game you've got to take the chances that are in front of you.
"Realistically we've had missed fortune in the goal that has beaten us today.
"I was annoyed with the performance on Tuesday. I can't be too critical if anything (today) - that gives me more hope again.
"We have played against a good side and, barring an unlucky goal we'd have got a point.
"I'm not too sure how the ball stayed out at the end, I was waiting for it to go in the net, somehow it didn't - credit them for putting their bodies on the line."
Town went close on a number of occasions in the opening 45 minutes, shooting off-target on half a dozen occasions and only testing the German keeper once.
Wind was sapped from the hosts' sails after Bradford's opener, but Town rallied and searched for an equaliser late on, with Sattelmaier doing well to deny Shaun Whalley, Alex Rodman and Carlton Morris.
Shrewsbury's unbeaten home league run was ended by Stuart McCall's Bantams,. who boast the best away record in the division, with seven wins from 10 outings.
"I maybe feel a bit strange at the minute." Hurst added. "I'm disappointed that we've lost but overall I'm quite happy.
"There's a vast improvement in performance, the only thing is that when we went a goal behind we got a little lose in possession a couple of times.
"But even then we've had more than enough. We've had good chances, if only a bad touch or something has cost us the opportunity to get in front.
"But I reiterate the point, when you're playing against the better teams, you've got to take those chances and make it more difficult for them."
