Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst revealed the midfielder, who limped out of last Saturday’s FA Cup success against Aldershot, has been struggling to complete games due to the complaint.

The summer signing from Chesterfield has quickly become a popular figure at Montgomery Waters Meadow, notching three goals.

With Saturday’s clash against Charlton postponed, the 25-year-old will be away from training until at least next week in a bid to recover ahead of the League One trip to Rotherham.

“We want him right for the Rotherham game – there’s no two ways about that,” said Hurst. “Working with Skitty (physio Chris Skitt), we’ll decide the best plan to do that, whether it’s getting him back on the training ground early or not.

“I would suggest that he won’t be back out on the grass certainly until some time next week.

“He has been carrying it for a little while. He tends to have a day or two rest and then it’s better again.

“On Saturday it was no worse than going into any other games. I think he landed funny and seemed a bit worse.”

Hurst explained Nolan’s frustration at being unable to train as he joked about the midfielder’s influence on his team-mates and staff at the training ground.

“Well I think he keeps saying it’s his groin, but it’s his hip – I think it’s best if we leave the diagnosis to the physio and not the player,” joked the Shrewsbury chief.

“He walked in on Monday and was fine. He’s ‘Mr Happy’ at the best of times....sulking because he can’t play football and that people are getting on him. The quicker we can get him out on the training pitches the better it’ll be for everybody.”
