Chris Doig satisfied with Shrewsbury's summer business

Chris DOIG is delighted with Shrewsbury Town’s transfer business this summer – as the window slammed shut last night with no new faces through the door.

Four departed Montgomery Waters Meadow on transfer deadline day with Ryan McGivern, AJ Leitch-Smith, Dan James and Zak Jules heading out the exit door.

Boss Paul Hurst was looking to add to his 14 new signings but no late deal was struck, leaving Town settled with the side that remains unbeaten and sitting third in League One.

Hurst’s No.2 Doig stressed the management team’s full confidence in Shrewsbury’s squad, claiming the spirit within the camp has increased.

“There have been a lot of changes and we’re delighted with what we’ve brought in,” said Doig.

“We’ve a lot of confidence in the lads we’ve brought in.

“We’re more than happy with going forward how it is. They’re a committed group, a good group, with a good team spirit.

“At the minute they’re giving us everything and we can’t ask for anything else. It’s certainly a better team spirit.

“That was one thing that we weren’t too comfortable with when we came in, but as the season progressed we had a good team spirit last year.

“It’s something both the gaffer and myself put a lot of emphasis on. It’s a big part of it to have a group of lads that get on with each other and fight for each other.

“It’s great credit to the lads with the start we’ve had, and the manager for the environment he creates.”

Town head to Gillingham tomorrow and Doig is expecting a physical encounter.

He added: “It doesn’t matter if it’s Gillingham away or Oxford away, we always go to win. It’s a different approach to the game that Gillingham will give to Oxford, in terms of how they play.”

Loan forward Niall Ennis is back with parent club Wolves for treatment on an unspecified injury, with Town still awaiting a full diagnosis.
