Shrewsbury Town have offered contracts to Mat Sadler, Shaun Whalley, Bryn Morris and Shaun Rowley.

Meanwhile boss Paul Hurst announced they have released out of contract quartet Mark Halstead, Ethan Jones, Kaiman Anderson and Callum Grogan.

Sadler and Whalley have been key parts of Hurst's first-team since the boss's appointment at Town, while goalkeeper Rowley, who has been on-loan at Slough, is highly rated for the future.

All four of their deals were up this summer.

Central midfielder Morris has caught the eye after arriving from Middlesbrough in January.

"There's no real surprise with the first two, Mat Sadler and Shaun Whalley," said Hurst.

"I met with them today and told them my intentions of hoping they sign a new deal, we'll see how that pans out over the next days or weeks.

"We've also offered Shaun Rowley a new deal, fingers crossed we get those across the line to be part of the new squad I'm trying to put together."

On forwards Jones and Anderson, defender Grogan and shot-stopper Halstead departing Greenhous Meadow, Hurst added: "It's certainly not the best part of the job. I've let Callum Grogan, Ethan Jones and Kaiman Anderson go.

"They've spent time in the training ground with us but we've only seen them in very small bits of games, like ones here (Meadow) or on loan.

"There's an element of feeling for them more. I don't think they've had the best opportunities. Maybe for them it was a negative me coming in the end.

"I've said to all three of them, and I mean this genuinely, that's the best decision for them as well as us. They need to go somewhere and play. Someone like Ethan needs to learn the game more, while you do that on the training ground you need to put it into practice.

"Kaiman's had a couple of good loans, one in particular, so has been out of his comfort zone.

"I couldn't see Callum forcing his way into that first-team squad. We can't have a squad full of young lads.

"I've also let Mark Halstead leave the club, he had a couple of games when I first came in and did well. I think Mark 100 per cent is ready for a new challenge and I hope he can go somewhere as a No.1, then it's over to him.

"He's at that stage where he needs that, to a degree he's become used to being a No.2 for a little too long. There's no doubt he can play in League football."

Paul Hurst is keen to see more of Bryn Morris in a Shrewsbury Town shirt after offering the former England youth skipper fresh terms.

The 21-year-old moved to Shropshire from boyhood club Middlesbrough in January on a six-month deal.

And the Town boss has offered Morris a deal after he went on to make 13 appearances in blue and amber, catching the eye of the Town faithful.

Hurst had previously included Morris in the category of players performing to secure a future.

The Hartlepool born central midfielder had previous loan spells with Burton, Coventry, York and Walsall before leaving the Riverside permanently.

Hurst said: "I've offered Bryn a deal. I look at him, his age, where he came from, to come in and, by his own admission, how hard that was, how he found the change in training.

"I think he's gradually adapted. He's had a couple of excellent games and a couple not so good. I spoke before about his attitude to his job and some of the performances he has put in, it's worthwhile offering him a contract.

"We'll wait to see if that's accepted but he's certainly someone I'd like to see in a Shrewsbury Town shirt.

"He's a young player, 21, and there's more to come without a shadow of a doubt, he thinks that also. Getting used to how we want to work, train and play. Maturity-wise, he's very mature for his age.

"It's getting used to the speed of 23s football to the first team. I've been impressed by his attitude as much as anything.

"If he can get somewhere and settle, I thought a couple of times he's been trying too hard. He put everything into training and games, once he's settled you'll see an even better player there."
