Five key moments from Shrewsbury Town's survival bid
Lewis Cox pinpoints five moments which played a big role in Salop's survival battle.
Millwall vs Salop December 10, 2016
Paul Hurst has previously pointed to victory at The Den as a highlight.
Town defended for their lives in what proved an unlikely three points, having only once on the road prior to that trip.
The performance and result meant that supporters believed in Hurst's methods despite, as he admitted, the team he inherited not being good enough.
Louis Dodds' early goal sealed the points, and some good fortune and solid defending helped Town over the line.
Scunthorpe vs Salop - February 11, 2017
The second win on the road under Hurst was more unlikely than the first.
The Iron were unbeaten at Glanford Park for 26 matches and 14 months, Shrewsbury weren't fancied to end that run.
But Freddie Ladapo's superb goal in front of a drenched away end proved memorable.
It was the final result of six matches unbeaten for Hurst's side and lifted them to 17th, six points clear of safety.
Town gave themselves a chance with this run.
Salop vs Charlton - February 28, 2017
For entertainment rating, this was the best of the lot.
Seven goals, breathless attacking, superb finishing, it certainly wasn't one for the defensive purist.
Ricky Holmes' hat-trick counted for nothing as Town came from behind to snatch a fascinating midweek winner. Shrews were left 16th with 41 points.
They had 11 games remaining to comfortably reach their 50-point target – but many twists and turns were up ahead.
Hurst's side went on their six-game winless run straight after.
Salop vs Walsall - April 14, 2017
Not the best display of these five but a crucial point as the pressure cranked up following Town's dive in form.
As Hurst admitted, for a derby day with plenty riding on it, his side were awful for the first hour, but recovered well to take a share of the spoils with Stefan Payne's fine header.
Walsall weren't much better themselves, but they looked set to break Shrews hearts before Town rallied midway through the second period. The point proved invaluable.
Salop vs Southend - April 22nd, 2017
What a way to finish it!
Not many gave Town hope as they welcomed play-off chasing Southend, who desperately needed a positive result for their own top six ambitions.
Shrews deserved their three points and were the better side for large parts.
Crucially, Town didn't panic when the visitors gained a foothold and the hosts delivered a telling blow 25 minutes from time through Junior Brown's flying header.
It was a great occasion, with three points all-but keeping the club up.
