Abu Ogogo contract is great news to Shrewsbury Town – Bernard McNally

It is great to see that Abu Ogogo's deal at Shrewsbury Town has been extended for another year.

He really has been missed since picking that knee injury in February as he can get around the pitch so quickly – he is a bundle of energy in the middle of the park.

Abu is one of those where you do not realise how much he contributes, and what a good player he is, until he is out of the team.

His energy levels and ability to win tackles have really came to light while the side has been without him – sometimes he does the job of two men.

I think everyone has realised what a big asset he is to Shrewsbury. He is a player's player, he is one you can take confidence from playing alongside.

The amount of times you see it – someone losing the ball, he is there to pick up the pieces and then moving the ball forward. Now, lets hope a few more players can impress during the run in to secure their futures at the club too.

Bryn Morris, very much one of those aiming to earn a deal beyond the summer, was everywhere as Town beat Rochdale 1-0 on Saturday.

He really stepped up to the mark and had a tremendous game and, looking at the team, the win was of massive importance.

It was great to see the players respond in the manner they did, putting in a good performance following four straight losses.

Remaining calm is the key – and that is what Paul Hurst and his players seem to be doing.

They have not lost sight of what was good before. They had a blip, but Paul – now they are out of the bottom four – will be treating every game as a cup final because they really are, as was the case against Walsall today.

Having been in a relegation battle myself, eight or nine times over the course of being a player and a manager, it is all about keeping your heads and having that positive attitude when you step out onto the pitch.

And when Shrewsbury do that, try to take the game to the opposition, they produce some very good football.

Looking at the game coming up on Monday, Northampton Town are a team firmly in mid-table with nothing to really play for now.

Sometimes teams in that position can get complacent, and Town need to capitalise on any whiff of that.

Lastly, well done to Stefan Payne for getting off the mark by scoring the winner against Rochdale.

He has had a bit of a rough time since coming in on loan from Barnsley, picking up a foot injury early on and getting back up to match-speed.

Stefan looks a physical player – and I think supporters were expecting more from him because of that physicality. Lets just hope that goal has given him a lot of confidence as strikers feed off of it.

It is up to him now to prove a point, silence the doubters, and show why he should be starting these remaining games.

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith came out with some very strong words after their 3-0 loss at Boston United – and I think he had to, it is fair comment.

He feels some of the players are cheating the club and, although the Bucks have struggled financially, they are paid fairly well.

Rob has every right to come out and say that, he expects a lot more from them and the fans do as well.

They need to find an identity by bringing in the right players, and Rob will be happy to get this season over and done with.

It is a case of rebuilding in the summer and starting again. Telford fans want good, attractive football and that competitive edge as well – the two go hand in hand.

They are calling out for a leader, a Mr Telford of sorts. Going back, Duane Courtney was a great central defender who did really well.

Sean Parrish – players like that, blended in with youth, is what they need. Then, of course, you need somebody who is on fire up top.

We had Alfie Carter for a short while too. Those are the figures you need because Telford should be looking ahead in National League North, not over their shoulders.
