Paul Hurst: I might have to start being nasty at Shrewsbury

Paul Hurst has warned he may need to get nasty on the touchline to boost Shrewsbury's chances of remaining in League One.

The Town chief was left raging as refereeing decisions went against his side in Tuesday's 2-1 reversal to Millwall.

Following last Saturday's defeat at Bristol Rovers, Hurst – whose Shrews side are now six games without a win – felt his team weren't competing on an even playing field.

And now the ex-Grimsby boss is beginning to question his polite manner on the sidelines, suggesting that it's getting Shrewsbury nowhere. "It's what aggravates me," he said. "You try and be friendly and try and conduct yourself properly but it doesn't seem to be getting ourselves anywhere.

"That's the frustration, do you have to jump about like a lunatic? It seems that if I even raise my voice then I'm getting threatened with being sent to the stand.

"Yet I see other managers in fourth officials' faces, grabbing hold of them, absolutely going ballistic but maybe if you've got that reputation already then that's acceptable.

"People seem to get treated differently and I went to see the referee and, I accept it's a difficult job, but some of the things said I totally disagree with."

Town, currently sitting 21st and two points adrift of safety, have five games remaining to secure their League One status.

They are likely to be without West Brom loanee Tyler Roberts, who pulled up with a hamstring injury on Tuesday.

"I'll reiterate what I've said. Whenever there are points to play for then we'll keep fighting, but at the moment it seems like it doesn't matter how hard we fight," added the boss.

"We're not going to beat teams 5-0, that's not going to happen. You need decisions, you don't need to be kicked in the teeth time and time again."

Meanwhile, Championship strugglers Rotherham, whose relegation to League One was confirmed last weekend, have appointed Paul Warne as their permanent manager.

Warne, 43, had been in caretaker charge of the Millers since Kenny Jackett's departure last November.

The appointment ends rumours that Hurst would become the next Rotherham boss. The Town manager is regarded as a legend with Rotherham, where he is their second-highest appearance maker.

Hurst rejected the rumours at a recent Q&A session with fans and Warne was yesterday handed a one-year rolling deal.
