Shaun Whalley: Shrewsbury Town were unlucky against Millwall
Shaun Whalley believes Town were a match for Tuesday night's victors Millwall and unfortunate as yet more refereeing decisions went against them.
The winger played his part in a late consolation, that went down as an own goal, and flashed a couple of fine balls across the Millwall penalty area but Shrews were unable to profit.
Two more controversial strikes, one in each half from defenders Byron Webster and Shaun Hutchinson, helped the Lions to the spoils. The first looked offside according to boss Paul Hurst, while the second was knocked in with stricken goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler out of action with a head injury.
The outcome was Town's fourth straight defeat, leaving them without a win in six and two points adrift in the hunt for League One safety.
Whalley, who made his 30th appearance of the season, said: "It seems to be every week and I'm not one to complain about referees and decisions but I've heard the first was offside and the second Jayson has gone down and he obviously can't save it if it's on-target and the lad's rolled it in...it's frustrating but I thought overall we were more than a match for them.
"We didn't create much in the first-half and we were playing a little slow, myself included, but the manager and Doigy got into us a bit telling us to believe in ourselves and we had a good go in the second-half and the goal set us back.
"We got the consolation and I thought we were well on top, I had an alright chance on my left foot but blazed it over. It was a frustrating night but we've got to pick ourselves up and go again to beat Rochdale on Saturday."
