Paul Hurst hopes to reap benefits of Christmas spirit for Shrewsbury Town
Boss Paul Hurst hopes the impact of players spending Christmas Day with their loved ones can add to Town's armoury at Bolton Wanderers.
Shrews are targeting a second consecutive high-profile League One victory on the road after beating Millwall a fortnight ago.
And the boss, who will spend tomorrow with his young family at their home town of Killamarsh, is not one to drag his charges in for another training session on Christmas Day.
"It's family time," Hurst explained. "For me, logistically where we are and where the players travel from I genuinely don't see any worth in getting the players in.
"I think I'll get far more out of them by being someone that hopefully they see as treating them properly with respect.
"I honestly believe it'll have no negative impact on our performance that we don't train.
"It's something I've always done as a manager and we've always had good results on Boxing Day. This time that'll be tested but whatever happens the players will be prepared, that's for sure." The Greenhous Meadow chief revealed he will expect his players to exercise on the day but added that trust is in place for them to not over-indulge.
"If we got a wind of any of them over-indulging then that will be dealt with but I don't think that'll be the case at all," he added. "It's more about spending quality time at what is arguably the biggest time of year for family."
