Winger Shaun Whalley has suffered a setback that looks set to delay his return to the Shrewsbury Town first team.

The Scouser marked his return from a calf problem last month with the clinching late goal in a win against Oxford United, but has since been struck with a thigh problem.

And the attacker, who was working with physio Chris Skitt in an attempt to step up his rehab, has struggled with further discomfort and looks set for a longer spell on the sidelines.

"Shaun had a bit of a setback, haw far I'm not too sure," admitted boss Paul Hurst. "Certainly he felt that bit more pain again.

"It's frustrating for him, myself and everyone. I think he's one of the few that we've got that can really give the crowd and the team a lift with something a bit different.

"That's not putting anyone else's job down because as someone keeps telling me you need different ingredients to bake a cake."

Hurst, whose side are set for a reunion tomorrow against Fleetwood in the FA Cup, wants the players' 'hurt' to fire them on after losing a League One clash to the Cod Army 3-0 last month.

"Every time as a player, if you had a bad game, the next time you played that opposition – or even in the next game – you should want to show better," he added.

"Last Saturday the players that were selected showed a willingness and a desire to do better and it was a shame we couldn't get that goal."
