Paul Hurst: Shrewsbury Town wouldn't be first on Match of the Day
Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst was pleased with his side's reaction in the goalless draw against Port Vale - but admitted the derby would not be a contender to appear first on Match Of The Day.
Town spurned a handful of chances on their way to ending a run of two straight League One defeats.
But as their Staffordshire visitors grew into things late on, Town battened down the hatches and held out to secure a resolute point.
Hurst demanded a reaction from the disappointing 3-0 reversal at Fleetwood on Tuesday and was pleased with what his players provided.
Although he conceded that quality was lacking at times, particularly in offensive areas - and that the draw would likely not be more of the front-runners to appear first on a highlight show.
"We got a reaction for me. You cannot fault the efforts from both teams. There was endeavor there but just lacking some quality.
"I can't question the attitude today, both were trying to win the game. The last 10 minutes were very open. It looked like a mistake would be the contributing factor.
"Perhaps we didn't do quite enough to win it. Overall it won't be one, if we were fortunate enough to be on Match of the Day, we wouldn't be first on.
"For where we are and the result we suffered, it wasn't always about being pretty I don't think we're at a stage where we can be - it might be more about grinding results out.
"We've done that although it would've been nice to have taken all three."
Salop secured their fourth clean sheet under Hurst - and a second in League One - where Jayson Leutwiler was back between the sticks for Mark Halstead.
Town remain five points from safety at the bottom of the division as they take a break from league action ahead of next week's FA Cup second round tie with Fleetwood.
"A clean sheet was positive but it was positive to get anything from the game," the boss added.
"You don't want to suffer another defeat and I understand we want to win games of football to get out of the situation we're in.
"There's still a long way to go. It was about seeing attitudes and we go back to confidence, that impacts on the final ball in and you need confidence to take the balls."
