Shrewsbury Town's Jim O'Brien has red card overturned after appeal
Jim O'Brien's red card against Sheffield United has been overturned following an appeal from Shrewsbury Town.
O'Brien was the first of two Salop players to see red during the 2-1 loss at Bramall Lane, and was sent off following a challenge on Daniel Lafferty in the penalty area.
Referee Darren Deadman showed O'Brien a straight red, but the Blades couldn't convert the resulting penalty.
However, Shrewsbury Town appealed the decision and have since seen the red card overturned, meaning O'Brien will be available for Shrewsbury's game against Fleetwood Town.
New league rules state that if a player makes an honest tackle to try and win the ball but gives away a foul to deny a goals coring opportunity that the player will only receive a booking instead of a red card.
Now, only deliberate fouls that stop a goal scoring opportunity incur a red card.
Shrewsbury Town also considered appealing Abu Ogogo's sending off, but didn't lodge an appeal due to lack of clear video footage of the incident.
