Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst faces goalkeeping dilemma

Shrewsbury Town chief Paul Hurst admits Mark Halstead has given him a decision to make as fellow shot-stopper Jayson Leutwiler returns.

Leutwiler has been away on international duty with Canada – where he received a first call-up after switching his international allegiances from birth country Switzerland – while Halstead has shone between the sticks, claiming back-to-back clean sheets.

Halstead, who featured on 19 occasions last term as Leutwiler was sidelined with long-term injuries, is opposed to labelling himself Shrewsbury's 'number two' – instead insisting that he is fit and able to play and hopes to continue at high-flying Sheffield United this weekend. The former Blackpool man caught the eye with a number of fine saves in the League One victory against Oxford, including a stunning one-handed save from Kane Hemmings' point-blank header.

Hurst, who sifted through 20 of Salop's squad in his opening three games as he decided on his favoured XI, admitted the stand-in goalkeeper has put himself in the frame to start at Bramall Lane. "He's (Halstead) definitely given me another headache," said the Salop boss.

"I thought Jayson had done well before that and Mark's done well in the games he's had. They've both had clean sheets. Mark's had two and Jayson had his one and did very well at Southend.

"Now I've got a decision to make."
