Shrewsbury Town to assess Adam El-Abd before Sheffield United game
Shrewsbury Town will assess the fitness of skipper Adam El-Abd ahead of the visit of Sheffield United.
The Egypt international was forced off in the first half in defeat at Walsall on Saturday with a groin injury.
Caretaker boss Danny Coyne and physio Chris Skitt will assess the injury and make a call on whether the former Brighton man will make the cut.
His potential absence will be a blow to Salop, who are without fellow defender Ryan McGivern, who is suspended for his dismissal at Walsall.
Should El-Abd miss out through injury, Coyne may be forced to sacrifice the side's current 3-5-2 system – with just Jack Grimmer and Olly Lancashire remaining to feature at centre-half.
But Coyne, who is overseeing a third match of his interim stint at the helm, is boosted by the return of Louis Dodds, who again came through training.
Attacking midfielder Dodds was not quite match-ready to feature against the Saddlers but has completed training.
Forward AJ Leitch-Smith picked up a slight knock in training and is doubtful, while Shaun Whalley remains the club's only long-term absentee.
"We'll see what we've got and we'll go with it. We've got a squad with everyone champing at the bit to play." Coyne said.
