Assistant manager Mike Jackson has also left the club, while goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne is to take charge of the first team for their League One trip to Bradford on Saturday.

Mellon had been under increasing pressure at Greenhous Meadow with the club languishing in the bottom three of League One, with just two wins in 11 matches.

Salop's home record had been under scrutiny for more than 12 months, with just six league wins in 28 games.

The boss spent just over two seasons in charge of Salop, where he followed Graham Turner, managing Shrewsbury in 125 competitive games, gaining promotion to League One 2014/15.

Mellon's move to Rovers is currently being finalised, with the final matters being ironed out.

A statement from Shrewsbury Town said: "Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has this morning left the club by mutual consent.

"Assistant manager Mike Jackson has also left the club while goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne will take charge of training and Saturday's Sky Bet League 1 game at Bradford City.

"The club would like to thank Micky and Mike for all they have achieved during their times at the club."
