Stick with us, Grimmer pleads with Shrewsbury Town fans
Shrewsbury Town fans' favourite Jack Grimmer has pleaded with supporters to stick with Salop as they aim to climb the League One table.
Salop sit down in 22nd as the division begins to take shape after eight games, of which Micky Mellon's charges have lost five.
And Grimmer, who joined Town on loan for a third spell from Fulham on transfer deadline day, has issued a rallying cry in search of continued support.
"You just want the fans to stick with you, it's early in the season and it's a long season. We all need to be pulling in the same way and I'm sure we will do that," said the 22-year-old Scot.
"I can understand how annoyed the fans are and I'm the same. Last season I came here and I knew how the home form had gone then and I tried my best to pick that up.
"You need to make your home a fortress, especially if you're going to do well in this league. Teams make their home fortresses and then opposition struggle to win.
"Thankfully last season we could win away from home, I don't know if it suited our style of play better, but it's easy to see why the fans are so frustrated and I'm up there with them.
"I'm a football fan as well and it's clear to see that fans are turning out to games. They were loud on Saturday – I got a great reception which was much appreciated – and we need to repay that."
Boos rang around Greenhous Meadow after Town slipped to their fourth home defeat in six games against table-topping Scunthorpe.
United scored the game's only goal five minutes into added time in the first half.
While the timing was a frustration, Grimmer insists he was pleased with how Salop had applied themselves during much of the opening period.
"We saw early what this team can do. We know with the players we have, we can pass the ball a lot better than what we've been doing," he added.
"We showed that on Saturday, Deegs (Deegan) was superb in the middle and so was Abs (Ogogo).
"You just look at the players that have come in and what they've done in the teams they've been at.
"The bar has been raised in my opinion and we're definitely looking to kick on."
