Micky Mellon vows to rally Shrewsbury troops

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon admitted both he and his side were distraught after bowing to their fourth home defeat in six games.

Salop's disappointing Greenhous Meadow form continued as Mellon's men fell to 22nd in League One following high-flying Scunthorpe Town's narrow 1-0 victory.

Town played some eye-catching football in the opening half hour against the division's new table-toppers, but once the Iron scored deep into added time at the end of the first half, Mellon's charges simply did not look like getting back into the game.

"We're gutted, we're absolutely gutted and on the floor," said a disappointed Town chief

"It's absolutely our job to make sure we don't de-motivate them, it's our job to keep them where they are. Motivation is from within, we've got to make sure we keep going and are optimistic and keep knowing that it is about fine margins.

"We know the areas we have to improve."

Salop's home record since the beginning of last term now stands at eight wins from 33 in all competitions and even after sending three substitute strikers on, Town found creating chances tough.

"We've got to be better between the lines," added Mellon. "We've got to be better when we make the changes and see more of why we make the changes."
