Boss Micky Mellon playing down tunnel trouble
Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon has played down the tunnel fracas in Saturday's fiery encounter at Bury, labelling it a 'keenly-contested men's game'.
The League One clash was heated throughout, with two red cards as the hosts' striker James Vaughan and Salop skipper Adam El-Abd were both dismissed.
The centre-half – who spent six months on loan at Gigg Lane in 2014/15 – will now miss Town's home game with high-flying Scunthorpe.
The temperature rose as both sets of players made their way down a congested Gigg Lane tunnel at the break, with a melee lasting a couple of minutes as players and staff were pulled apart.
But Mellon said: "I wasn't there. I leave first so I'm already up and in the dressing room by then.
"It's a small tunnel, the stewards dealt with it. That's what happens sometimes, there was nothing untoward and we got ourselves in the dressing rooms and it was a keenly-contested man's game."
Full-back Mat Sadler, making his first league start of the season for Shrewsbury in place of the injured Junior Brown, said: "I won't get into what I saw, I don't want to get anyone into trouble.
"I think it just showed the passion that we have as a team. We all trust each other, we all want to look after each other.
"That'll stay between us but at the end of the day we just want to look after our team-mates and look after the people we're with every single day and we did that."
