The Salop skipper powered home a header six minutes from time as Town overhauled Chesterfield despite going a goal down at Greenhous Meadow.

Junior Brown had scored his side's first League goal of the season to cancel out the Spireites' opener before El-Abd's dramatic winner. The defender rose to meet Jim O'Brien's corner late on before celebrating in the Salop Leisure Stand.

Mellon said: "The second one's a great delivery. If you put it in then the big man's going to be determined to get on the end of it – and big Adam's done the captain's job by putting his big head right through it.

"There you go (celebrations), that's what it means and that's how important it was to try and get that win that gets us going.

"We were well aware we had to try and do that to get the season kick-started. I'm very pleased we've got the three points."

On Brown's first League goal for Salop, also a header from a corner, Mellon added: "People will be surprised by Junior. He's actually very, very good in the air and he's a good little foil for us.

"Jacko (Michael Jackson, assistant) and the guys have been working on that, to get him into the positions. We had a number of corners and you felt the pressure building."

Stoke City loanee Moha Choulay was handed a first start and immediately endeared himself to the Town supporters with a lively performance full of pace, tricks and dynamic dribbling.

The former Barcelona man played in Ivan Toney early on for the forward to shoot wide in one many bursts through the Chesterfield side.

"He's a real talent and that's why we worked so hard to get him," added Mellon.

"Probably a lot of people when we brought him here wondered who he was, but you've seen what an exciting talent he is. It's great that you've got someone to dribble like that.

"He's going to get fitter and fitter."
