Boss Micky Mellon hopes to have two new forwards signed to his Shrewsbury Town squad ahead of tomorrow's visit to Charlton Athletic.

The Salop chief has been targeting an attacking duo for more than a week now and had hoped to get the deals done at the end of last week before the trip to Coventry City.

Loanee Ivan Toney came in for the injured AJ Leitch-Smith at the Ricoh Arena, with Andy Mangan in reserve while Louis Dodds and Ethan Jones are also able to play up front.

Mellon said: "I said to a few of you (the media) don't run on ahead too aggressively and you go and make it as a massive headline.

"Nothing is done until it's signed, but we're believing and we're hoping it'll be done on Monday.

"But we'll know about it as soon as it gets signed."

On 18-year-old academy graduate Jones, who started his first game for the club on Saturday before being withdrawn as Mellon changed the shape of his side at half-time, the boss added: "I thought he thoroughly deserved his opportunity, we know he's a frontman, that's for sure.

"But we wanted to give him an opportunity – because of his pace and power – he'll catch you on the break and he's a very strong boy.

"I thought he worked really really hard, the only reason why we took him off was because the shape of the team in the second half wouldn't have done Ethan justice."
