Mick Mellon wants two more Shrewsbury signings

Boss Micky Mellon insists there could be more signings at Shrewsbury – and revealed two deals are very close.

Town sealed the loan arrival of Ivan Toney yesterday to bolster their striking ranks but Mellon is looking to capture more forward options.

Work has been ongoing following last week's departure of Tyrone Barnett to add more firepower to the Town squad and Mellon is not stopping at 20-year-old Toney, who joined from Newcastle United. He said: "No (that's not it), we've still got a few more irons in the fire that we've been close to getting done for probably about a week now.

"We've been working hard all weekend to try and conclude those deals and get some more exciting talent to add to the group and in the building.

"If we get the two that we're after then I'm sure everybody would be very, very excited with it – we certainly are. It's close but it's not been done yet. We want to bring in another two impact players at that end of the pitch, who is different to what we have and who will bolster the squad even further."

Former Northampton Town hitman Toney arrives on a loan deal until Christmas and becomes the third senior forward in Mellon's squad after AJ Leitch-Smith and Andy Mangan, while Ethan Jones, 18, would make a fourth option.

Town are waiting to hear if Toney is able to feature against Huddersfield in the League Cup tonight.
