Shrewsbury Town get Huddersfield in EFL Cup
Shrewsbury Town have been drawn at home to Huddersfield in the first round of the English Football League Cup.
Town will host the Championship side - one of 17 seeded teams in the northern half of the draw - in the opening week of the season in the re-branded League Cup.
Micky Mellon's side beat Championship side Blackburn at the same stage last year before going out to Crystal Palace in extra-time.
They will be playing the Terriers for the first time in over 21 years, since they beat them 2-1 in April 1995 in Division Two (third tier) with goals from Dave Walton and Ian Stevens.
The teams have met in the competition once before - and Town will be hoping for a repeat.
Salop beat Huddersfield 4-3 on aggregate in the second round over two legs in 1985-86 after following a 3-2 defeat at Leeds Road with a 2-0 win at Gay Meadow.
An own goal and Stevens were on target in west Yorkshire while Gary Hackett and Colin Robinson netted in the return.
Town's reward was a home tie against then League champions Everton, but they went down 4-1 in front of 10,246 at Gay Meadow. Robinson scored Town's lone reply.
Shrewsbury will be seeking a repeat of their run in the competition in 2014-15, when they reached the fourth round after beating Blackpool, Leicester and Norwich before going out to winners Chelsea.
The draw was made this lunchtime by Sky Sports' Tom White and former Chelsea, Manchester United and England midfielder Ray Wilkins.
