Shrewsbury Town are looking to make 'two or three' more signings as they beef up their squad to make a bigger impact in League One.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell is working on more deals to add to the six signings made so far.

He's drafted in Olly Lancashire, Louis Dodds, Gary Deegan, Antoni Sarcevic, Ryan McGivern and AJ Leitch-Smith to avoid another relegation battle.

Caldwell said: "We have two or three things on the go just now which we're waiting feedback from, so watch this space.

"We've got a good squad already built up – League One proven players – which will hopefully improve the squad from last season and, hopefully, we can kick on from where we were last year.

"There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes. It's never done until it's signed, but we're all working hard to try to get a few more over the line."

Manager Micky Mellon is believed to want at least another striker, after Lee Novak was sounded out.

Town are bidding to replace the gaps left in the attacking areas by the exits of 12-goal top scorer Sullay Kaikai, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Kyle Vassell and Scott Vernon.

Caldwell said: "There are a few positions that Micky and I spoke about. He's saying he's not that far away now, but we spoke about the areas he still wants to strengthen.

"There's also the loan market we'll hopefully tap into again."

Of the six current players offered deals, Nat Knight-Percival and James Wesolowski are yet to commit their futures.

Caldwell claims the players have been in touch through their agents, but there has been no contact yet with goalkeeper Mark Halstead.

Halstead looks to be the player with arguably the biggest battle for his place, after fellow goalkeepers Jayson Leutwiler and Callum Burton penned new two-year deals.

Meanwhile, Town have added a fourth friendly to their pre-season schedule.

It comes with a clash against Evo-Stik Northern Premier League outfit Stourbridge on Monday July 25 (7.45pm) at Stourbridge's War Memorial Athletic Ground.
