An overwhelming 86 per cent of the 600 or so Town fans who responded to our Shropshire Star survey want to see the 22-year Scot back in blue and amber in 2016-17.

Those backing Grimmer produced the biggest percentage answer for any of the 20 questions put to Town fans. And it seems the club are keen on a reunion too, with the one-time Aberdeen youngster said to be among the nine targets on Micky Mellon's list handed to the board.

Grimmer was a huge hit with fans, being an ever-present from when he arrived at the Greenhous Meadow in January.

The attacking Cottagers defender made 24 appearances and won the club's 'champagne moment' at the end of season awards dinner for his dramatic headed winner in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday.

It secured Town's first-ever meeting with eventual winners Manchester United in the fifth round.

Grimmer, who has a year left on his contract at Fulham, insists he would welcome the chance to return to the Greenhous Meadow next season.

"The manager (Slaviša Jokanovi?) plans to bring in his own players so what that holds for the players there, I'm not sure yet," he said.

"If I'm not in their plans I want to go out on loan because playing here has shown me how much I love playing week-in, week-out.

"So if I'm not going to get that there, I'll happily go out on loan again.

"I'd love to get a full season – it's one thing I haven't had yet which I would have liked.

"If I'm not going to get a full season at Fulham – or at least a run at it – I'd love to go out on loan again."

Grimmer says he relished his time at Shrewsbury, adding: "I loved it – everything from the FA Cup run to the unbeaten run. It all added up to a good second half of the season.

"The fans welcomed me with open arms and made it easy for me to come back."
